Where we come from-who we are-what we do

Engadin Adventure as a company has existed since the turn of the century (sounds better than saying since 2000), the company was formed when Eurotrek, a company that had been rafting the Inn since the 1980's, and Bike Tours Motta Naluns combined as one and became a subsidary of the Bergbahn Motta Naluns. In essence Engadin Adventure has existed in one form or another since the establishment of commercial rafting on the Inn River in the 1980's.

Today Engadin Adventure is the premier rafting and adventure company in the lower Engadin Valley. We are not only a rafting company running the white-water gorges of the Inn, but also a bike-shop where you can rent mountain-bikes and ride special mountain-scooters from the top of the ski lifts 10 kilometers into the valley.

Now that you you know what we do we thought that rather than staying out of sight behind the website we should introduce ourselves.

George Hein

Once upon a time George worked in a bank and was a completely normal Swiss person until he decided to take up a career in white water. George has spent time on the rivers of the Himalayas, notably paddling the Sun Kosi (five days, one bag of rice, and no tent...but that's another story), has worked in Mexico and New Zealand, and has wide experience in Europe where he has been rafting the upper reaches of the Inn longer than anyone else. George also runs our bike shop, is a pretty good bike mechanic and has intimate knowledge of the biking trails in the region. For those who choose to visit Scuol in the winter months, George is also a very slick ski and snowboard instructor who speaks Swiss-German, French, Japanese (also another story), English, Spanish and a bit of Italian. He also once starred in a Heidi movie (a very long story). George lives in the valley, so if you have any questions...no matter how silly....go ask George.

Sebastian Larcher

Sebastian is probably the most complimented guide working at Engadin Adventure...so we are not about to start here. Born and bred in Tirol, Sebastian has travelled the world as a white-water guide and ski-instructor, working on rivers and mountains in North and South America, Asia, Africa and of course all over Europe. Sebastian is also a ski-patroller, a heli-ski guide and is currently finishing off his mountain-guide qualifications. He speaks German (sort of...tyrolean really), English, French, Italian and as a result of spending too much time in massage parlours: Danish, Swedish and Norwegian (we swear it's true). Rumour has it that he survives solely on a diet of knödel.

Esteban Gonzalez

Esteban hails from the wine growing town of Mendosa in Argentina and has been with us for several seasons now. He originally started rafting on the rivers of South America before working throughout Europe as a river guide and bon vivant (if you can call that work). Esteban like all of our guides (with the exception of the boss) is multi-lingual and can chat up the ladies in Spanish, German or English. Esteban is also a keen trout fisherman and works as a fishing guide during the northern winters in Argentina, so he is always good for a story or too........apart from that he is probably the most skilled guide we have when it comes to selecting red wines and he grills a pretty mean asado.

Toby Saxton

Toby was born in the wilds of Nottingham on the Mud Island and now resides in the Eastern Republic bordering Switzerland. Luckily for us, a climbing accident that caused some broken bones turned Toby's attention from climbing to water sports when he was younger and Toby has been on, in and around rivers ever since. He has spent over a decade working as a guide on rivers in Europe and Scotland (which is also technically Europe) and is also an extremely skilled kayaker who at one stage paddled for the British Freestyle Kayak Team. Small children run and hide when they see him coming, however we can assure you that on the inside he's just as wild and wooly as he is on the outside.

Grant Fletcher (above with son Lukas)

We also call him ‚our glorious leader’. Grant is from New Zealand and like any good kiwi bloke a ‘jack-of-all-trades’. Early in his career he was a teacher who turned his passion for the outdoors into his career (like most kiwis). Since then Grant has worked on just about every continent. There are not many ski areas that are safe from him and practically no river on the planet that hasn’t been part of one of his yarns, of which there are legion (yarns that is). He is considered a bit of a white water legend (fossil) and has over the last 20 years been influential in rafting and adventure sports in the Engadine. When not building rope parks or engaging in the philosophy of sailing, cricket and rugby (all of which New Zealand excels at) you’ll find him in the office or driving our bus, or…if you are lucky he may just be your guide, regaling you with old river stories as float along (nodding off)….
